Yana - An Original Homework Production 1.2

Location issues: solved!

We came to an agreement with the hotel's revenue manager to have our 'Yana'-shoot 1 day earlier than we had originally planned it and that works out just fine. Mid August I'll head on over and meet up with the hotel management, to discuss what exactly we can and cannot do on that location.

But let me tell you, we can't thank them enough for giving us permission to shoot there, as the toughest thing in doing a (short)film here, is getting people to give up locations... If you're not there waiving your checkbook around, they lose interest pretty damn fast... but not these folks. They were very generous and only asked a small fee in compensation for using one of their hotel suites. Best deal... ever.

So far, 4 out of 6 characters have been cast and the costumes and props are coming together aswell. If we had a schedule, we'd be on it, pretty good :-p Allthough... w
e're no longer entirely sure about our title... so that might change over time. Maybe. We'll see...

Yana - An Original Homework Production 1.1

Oh boy... we've just hit the first bump in the road in completion of our 'Yana' project... Are we good, or what? :-s

We had set a date for our first shoot at a hotel just across the Dutch border, in Maastricht,
somewhere in August, but now it seems as there's an event taking place in the entire city that day and the hotel has been fully booked... so no place for us to set up our gear for shooting.

As preparations for shooting this introduction sequence are well on their way, we're now checking with the hotel management and our cast and crew, to see whether we can set another date in August.

Good thing is, we've already got our main actors on board, so at least we can shoot 'something' - somewhere... although that 'somewhere' is pretty damn important aswell.

Yana - An Original Homework Production 1.0

As you've probably noticed while entering the main page, we've got a whole new project on our slate: 'Yana'. A story about a teenage assassin, trying to live her everyday life... Which turns out to be much harder to do as one would think.

This is an original Homework production, based on the story and characters created by Daniël Duwé (The WookieCookie Factory) and Tom Van Immerseel (Homework Entertainment).

First, a 10 minute preview will be made and released online, to get initial reactions of the audience. That feedback will guide us in our decision whether to take things to the next level (short/feature) or just leave it at that...

Our main character, Yana, has already been cast, aswell as our villain and his henchmen.
We're currently awaiting confirmation on our main location, so once we've got clearance on that, we're good to go!

* note that this project has priority number 1 and all our other shorts have been pushed back, to get 'Yana' up and running. Watch out for updates, because this could go real fast, real quick... Don't miss it!

Homework Journal Update 1.3

It's not such a good thing when a lot of time goes by between updates, but that's the way it has to be for now, I'm afraid... Been too long since we've posted a new vid on our Youtube channel aswell... but we're working on that...

We've done some big upgrades on our shooting equipment the past few days. For little over a year now, we've been shooting on our Canon XH A1 HD cam, which gives us awesome looking footage to work with, but we weren't quite there yet. So recently we brought in a Wide Converter to increase DoF a bit and to be able to shoot more 'cinematic' imagery. Along with that, we've purchased a Merlin Steadicam, for shooting more fluently and to give ourselves more freedom in camera movement. Our crane/dolly is -finally- being finished aswell, so things are looking really really good, equipment wise!

Operating these things might seem easy, but it sure as hell takes a lot - a lot! - of practice and patience to master... but eventually you can pull of some incredible looking shots... We've just started testing and are already pretty amazed by the improvement of movement and framing. Awesome!

We're still working an our projects we had in development aswell and even added 2 entirely new projects. Both are created from scratch, so they're no fanfilms this time, but original Homework Entertainment productions... We might have more news on them, sooner than you'd expect... so... Don't wander off too far now :p
